Okay team, let’s review our recent classroom session on bunt coverages and infield alignments. This is for those who missed it and for anyone wanting a refresher. We’re streamlining our plays with simple names and emphasizing the crucial need to secure outs. Here’s what you need to know:

Baseball Bunt Coverages: Blue & White

Key Takeaways & Responsibilities:

  • Blue Coverage (Runner on 1st):
    • Third baseman covers the left side.
    • Pitcher covers the right side.
    • Shortstop covers third base.
    • Second baseman covers second base.
    • First baseman stays home at first.
    • Catcher directs traffic, calling plays to 2nd or 1st.
  • White Coverage (Runners on 1st & 2nd):
    • Third baseman reads the play, covering third or fielding the bunt.
    • Pitcher covers the left side.
    • First baseman crashes to cover the right side.
    • Second baseman covers first base.
    • Shortstop covers second base.
      *Catcher directs traffic.

Our infield alignment has four positions:

  • One: Normal alignment.

  • Two: Double play depth with runners on first, middle infielders pinch.

  • Three: Corners up, middle infielders in double play depth.

  • Four: Infield cut, preventing the runner at third from scoring.

Remember your responsibilities for each position. Clear communication is key.
