Get your outfielders ready to make those tough catches on the run! This drill focuses on improving their ability to catch the ball while sprinting, enhancing their footwork, and conditioning. Here’s how to set it up and what to focus on to improve outfield skills.

Outfield Catching Drill

  • Set up two cones and have players start by flipping a baseball to the coach, acting as a quarterback.

  • Players sprint to the next cone, angling right, left, or straight, depending on the coach’s lead.

  • The coach throws the ball, varying the height and speed, to simulate different game situations.

  • As players improve, extend the running distance to increase the difficulty and conditioning.

This drill not only improves outfielders’ catching abilities on the move but also serves as a great conditioning exercise. Instead of just running sprints, incorporate this drill at the end of practice to keep them engaged and working on their outfield footwork.
