Here are three baseball agility drills designed to improve a player’s ability to accelerate, decelerate, react, and change direction on the field. These drills are suitable for various age groups and can significantly enhance a player’s agility.

Key Agility Drills for Baseball Players

  • Cone Hop Drill: Set up four cones in a pattern and hop laterally over each cone, focusing on explosive movements and balance. Emphasize sticking the landing on the outside foot before quickly exploding laterally again.

  • Direction Change Drill: A coach points in different directions, and the player sprints accordingly, focusing on quick deceleration and direction changes. The coach then tosses a ball for the player to catch off a bounce, testing their reaction time.

  • Ball Reaction Drill: The coach tosses a ball to the player’s left or right, and the player reacts, catches the ball, and then sprints back to catch a second tossed ball, enhancing their ability to change direction quickly.
